But why does it matter so much?

Unlike routine controls, the Welfair Certification goes beyond legal requirements and subjects farms to thorough audits that assess 4 fundamental principles and 12 specific criteria:

• Good feeding: ensures animals have continuous access to water and feed, avoiding stress from prolonged hunger or thirst.
• Good housing: assesses comfort in the resting area, adequate temperature and ease of movement.
• Good health: guarantees the absence of disease and injury, and handling without unnecessary pain.
• Appropriate behaviour: promotes suitable social interaction, the expression of natural behaviours and a positive emotional state.

For consumers, this certification stands for transparency and quality, ensuring that products come from ethical and responsible production. At Agroindustrias González, we work every day to offer the highest quality pork, always respecting animal welfare.

In 2023, our company Topigs Norsvin Ecuador, part of Agroindustrias González, received the first Animal Welfair animal welfare certificate awarded in Latin America. This important recognition was presented to our director, Jorge González, and our General Manager, Mirza González, reaffirming our commitment to ethical, responsible pig production aligned with the highest international animal welfare standards.
